Edinburgh.
Old building, many students, big park and awesome pubs - this is how I remember Edinburgh.
There's always music on the streets and we also saw quite a lot of men in tartan skirts playing bagpipes. Just like one imagines Scotland.
Besides the very nice charme of this city it also has some really great coffee and cake places, colorful streets and amazing scones which we enjoyed on top of Arthur's Seat, the panoramic hill in the city.

Dunnottar Castle.
There is no visit to Scotland without seeing some of the amazing castles. We started off with a ruin of a castle, but a very famous one. Dunnottar Castle is located on a rocky outcrop along the Aberdeenshire Coastal. It' quite impressive.

Blair Castle.
And as it's not very far we also visited Blair Castle. This one is more like a palace and has a beautiful garden.

Loch Morlich.
Our roadtrip continues to Loch Morlich. These beautiful lakes called Loch are everywhere in Scotland and some of them are very picturesque. We rented some Kayaks there and explored the lake with them. The sandy coast around Glenmore Forest Parc made it look very special.

Dalwhinnie Desillery.
Scotland is famous for its Whiskey and of course we needed to try it. I was also interested in distilleries themselves. This was the first time every I tried Whiskey and over the trip I got so used to it that I now like it a lot.
Along our trip we stayd in very speical accomodations. One night we spent with a great dinner at the Old Urquhart church in Elgin. It's a former church which is now a Bed and Breakfast and the two owners run it with a lot of love for details.

Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle.
Of course we payed a visit to famous Loch Ness. We didn't see Nessie thought - very upsetting.
Urquhart Castle are also ruins, we spend a bit of time there, it was not the highlight though.

Dunrobin Castle.
Another Castle - this one I can really recommend. The gardens are absolutely amazing and we saw a hawks and birds of prey show. The owls especially I found stunning.

Black Isle Brewery.
A beer for a change. Scotland has great craft beers.

Inverness.
Now we drive up north. Our goal is beautiful Inverness, the main city of the highlands. The way up was a highlight as well: sheep on the street, sometimes narrow paths, driving on the left side is still an adventure for us.

Durness.
My favorite stop on this roadtrip. The Sango Bay is simply beautiful, there were absolutely no people at all. Greens next to sandy beaches next to a very rough sea. This is how I imagined the highlands.
With a little boat we go to Cape Wrath, this island is not populated. We walked to the lighthouse and along the cliffs.
In the evening we had time to visit the Smoo Cave in Durness.

West coast to Ullapool.
Now we drive along the west coast down to Ullapool with several stops.
Our first stop was Polin Bay.
Then we did a little hike from the Stoerhead Lighthouse to the "Old man of Stoerhead", a famous rock needle in the sea.
Breathtaking landscape.
The little village Lochinver has a beutiful beach nearby called Achmelvich. From there we drive further to Kirkaig.
We did a short hike to the falls of Kirkaig which I can really recommend. The path is nice and the waterfall is picturesque. And then finally we were at the coastline of Ullapool.
Ullapool we liked very much. It is a little port city, the houses are reflected in the sea water. Idyll.

Eilean Donan Castle.
Although we have seen quite enough castles by now, this one is very photogenic. Exactly 3 lakes meet where this castle is located. Afterwards we drive over the Skye Bridge to the famous Isle of Skye.

Isle of Skye.
The Isle of Skye is fun. We visited Talisker Destillery. We hike to the fairy pools, crystal clear natural pools with little waterfalls. They are called pools right? So we jumped in. Oh man, that was cold!
In the evening we did a small hike along the cliffs to Neist Point. Never saw more sheeps before in my life.
We also did a Mountain bike tour, as Isle of Syke is super good for that, and he hiked up to the Old man of Storr. This is one of the most famous hikes on the Isle of Skye.
The village we liked most on the Island was Portree.
On our hike to Quiraing we had some very scottish weather and it was pouring.

Fort William.
Our next stop on the main land again was Fort William. It is near the Glen Nevis valley where we did a super nice hike to the Steall Falls.

Glencoe Valley.
Glencoe Valley is famous from movies. It is this endless landscape that looks a bit mystic and wide.

Oban.
Oban is a coastal town I really liked a lot. The city itself is super nice, many book stores.
We also did a boat tour to a lagoon and snorkeled with seals to the island Cairns of Coll. This super cute little creatures are so curious. One bit me in my fins. On our way back to Oban we made a little stop ad the Mull Island.

Corsewall lighthouse.
I always wanted to sleep in a lighthouse and today it's time.
Via Paisley and Stranraer we drive to Corsewall lighthouse - our home for tonight.

Glasgow.
The last stop of our roadtrip is Glasgow. The busy city was a nice change from the deserted areas of the last few days.
Glasgow itself was not as beautiful as Edinburgh, but it has some quite nice street art to offer.
And that was the end of a very diversified country and a super nice roadtrip.
