I've been to so many places around the world, but Paris, a city so close to Austria, I've never visited before.
This fall, actually we wanted to go to Israel, but as the war started there we had to spontaneoulsy choose a different location. As we then decided to choose something completely different, we took a plane to Paris.
After a couple days in Paris we crabed a rental car and took a road trip through Normandie and Bretagne.
Our stops along the route:
• Paris
• Rouen
• Étretat
• Le Havre
• Honfleur
• Bayeux
• Barfleur
• Mont St. Michel
• Côte de granit rose
• Phare du Petit Minou
• Brest
• Nantes
• Bordeaux
Obviously, the weather in France in November was not the best, as it was already pretty cold some days, but on the other hand there was absolutely no tourism, and we had some of the places all to ourselves.
Paris.
We did not expect a lot from Paris as most people told us it's a rather dirty city with too many tourists and totally overrated.
But Paris proofed us wrong. We absolutely loved the city. The French were super nice, and as it wasn't the main season tourism was ok. The city is full of lights, really nice and cozy corners, great food, bars and many interesting little shops.
Normandie.
In Normandie our focus was on the tracks of DDay. We visited the famous museum in Caen, we drove to the beaches (Juno and Gold beach) to see the locations. Seeing the leftovers of the war triggers a lot of thoughts.
Besides that, the cities we visited were amazing. Especially Honfleur is very charming.
Mont St. Michel.
Right in between Normandie and Bretagne is this surreal "city" placed in the wadden sea. I always wanted to see it, it was amazing.
Bretagne.
The absolute highlight in Bretagne was the Cote de Granit Rose. I could have spent days there, hiking a long the trail.
Brest was a bit underwhelming but we enjoyed a great Michelin Star Dinner in Nantes.
