What to do in Madeira? Well, HIKE, what else :D
I spend around 10 days on the island, together with a friend.
There's so much to see on this island - amazing sunsets, lots and lots of waterfalls, nice walking routes along the levadas (water channels).
There were 2 hikes I would really recommend as the views are amazing:
• the pico to pico hike
• the hike to Ponta de São Lourenço
Pico to Pico hike.
We started at Pico Arieiro were you hike the "stairs to heaven" until Pico Ruivo. Nowhere in Madeira you get such a stunning view of the island.
Ponta de São Lourenço.
The cap and nature reserve is at the most eastern point of the island. It's basically a hike along the sea, and offers a picture-perfect rock backdrop.
Besides the hikes, main city Funchal is also really nice to visit.
The natural pools and the many viewpoints on the island make it a great place to spend your time.
